Why ChatGPT for the Camp?
In our AI Quest Summer Camp, we don’t just teach students how to prompt AI tools – we teach them how to think strategically WITH AI. ChatGPT serves as the perfect learning partner because it’s:
- Free to use (no subscription required for camp activities)
- Conversational (perfect for practicing our EREE™ method)
- Versatile (works for creative, academic, and analytical tasks)
- Beginner-friendly (easy interface for students of all experience levels)
Step-by-Step Setup Guide
Step 1: Create Your Account
- Go to chat.openai.com
- Click “Sign up” (top right corner)
- Use your teen’s email address (they’ll be the primary user)
- Create a strong password
- Verify the email address when prompted
Important: Use your student’s email so they can access the account during and after camp.
Step 2: Verify Everything Works
- Once logged in, you’ll see a chat interface
- Try asking a simple question like: “What are three interesting facts about space?”
- ChatGPT should respond with helpful information
- If you get a response, you’re all set!
Step 3: Understand the Interface
- New chat button: Start fresh conversations (top left)
- Chat history: Access previous conversations (left sidebar)
- Message box: Where you type your questions/prompts (bottom)
- Regenerate: Get a different response if needed

Common Setup Issues & Solutions
“I can’t create an account”
- Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
- Clear your browser cache and cookies
- Make sure you’re using a valid email address
- Check if your school/parent controls block the site
“ChatGPT says it’s at capacity”
- This happens during peak usage times
- Try again in 15-30 minutes
- The free version sometimes has usage limits during busy periods
“I’m getting error messages”
- Refresh the page and try again
- Make sure your internet connection is stable
- Try logging out and back in
